I recieved a inquire from Carmen....
By CarmenKR in Abstract

..."I am wondering if most artists have prints made of their original work.  If so, can a copy & print shop do this for me? Is this what is best if you want to post examples of your work?.".....

.I couldn't  find where this originated from. For me I have never made a copy of my originals. I post on this gallery by downloading a photograph from my  camera but I change it into pixels. generally I use 500 wide and it automatically adjusted the horizonatily. I am sure someone cane help you out. This is not my expertise at all.

Thank you, PAW, for your reply.  I have been doing Yupo and know that you do too.  Do you have a sophisticated camera or an ordinary digital?  I have not had great results trying to take pictures of my work inside, as I get a glare or shine on the picture.  I have turned off the flash and now think that I should take the picture outside using natural light.  Sorry I am making this such a project.  If I could take the photos myself, that would be ideal.

Thank you,

Carmen Robinson

Hi Carmen, I have Canon Power Shot A650. There is no way to turn my flash off which is so frustrating sometimes. I take pictures in my studio  which has light coming down from above. I set my painting upright , stand back and us my zoom. Sometimes I get lucky and able to get close. I do not get light bounce back as I did when I used plexiglas now that  was a challeneg. Sometimes if you adjust your angle do not stand right in front of it. take several shots. I use photo explosion to crop, resize and if needed color balance.   I am glad to hep you smile. you said you were 60 or over 60 and I am in the same boat floating in at 67. hahah. so us oldies but goodies must try to stay updated right?   (my studio has no windows all walls)

keep at it and you are all welcome,

Paw

I'm a terrible photographer of my work, but these few things have helped me a lot:

Outdoors on the porch or on a cloudy day.

Use a tripod or a makeshift tripod.  Way better focus, no matter how still you think you are holding it.

Thanks for the tips for taking the photos.  I am going to try again and see if they are improvements over the last ones.   Next month there is a juried fine arts exhibit that I intend to enter.  I have been doing watercolor on Yupo for about 2 years now.  Last April I entered this show and was so pleased to be accepted.  The exhibit is an established, prestigious local show and difficult to get into,  While my paintings are interesting, it was a total surprise.  I almost felt like I had not worked hard or long enough in my craft to be in that exhibit.  I have finally found a medium that amazes me and lets me experiment with color & design, which I love.  The possibilities are endless .  I have only had 1 class in Yupo but it was enough to begin.  I now try all sorts of effects and find more contentment with my results.  Painting is fun and such a healthy activity for the spirit!  I appreciate all the talent I am seeing on this site.

Hello:  I created a new thread on Yupo in this forum where I attached a picture of some of my work.  This is one technique that I use.  It looked a bit different when it was dry than when it was still wet.  I was surprised cause I went to bed and had an image in my mind.  When I looked at it in the morning, it was a surprise.  But I rather like it.  I have other Yupos that I use a more complex technique to get my results.  I hope to post them soon.  Since you are a Yupo artist, you can appreciate these small "miracles"!  I will check into the member gallery you spoke of.  I am just getting familiar with the site.  I'll get it figured out.
