I am terrible at finishing a project and then going back and wanting to fix something that doe snot need fixing. Guess tha makes me a perfectionist. So, far I have around 50 paintings that I would like to sell and get away from me;I am a finished paintings worst nightmare. Currently I have a posted blog that has helped to keep from touching the ones that I have posted. Does anyone have a issue with wanting to try and fix something  that doe snot need fixing?

Hmmm...do you feel like you're ruining them when you go back in or is there something about them that bothers you or is there something you missed?

Some pieces I've done that I can't leave alone are because I have a poor composition or execution early on and just keep trying to make it right.

On the other hand, I always let me work rest a few days and almost always find a slight tweak when I see it with a fresh eye.

I know I sometimes don't know when to stop. Sometimes I get to the point where I feel if I draw anymore I will ruin the picture! But I am speaking on behalf of pencil, which I feel can have an endless amount of detail! But you bring up a good topic....how to know when a piece of art is truly "complete"....if that is even possible! I may think I am done but someone else may look at it any see something I did not. I agree with Robin, that taking a step back for some time helps you look at it differently. Especially when you have stared at if for hours and hours!
