Robin Frey: Weekend With the Masters Instructor
Artist Robin Frey grew up in Sarasota, Florida,
taking art classes as a child at the Ringling School of Art. She received her
B.F.A. from Eastern Mennonite University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Upon
graduating, she moved to New York City and continued her academic training at
The Art Students League of New York, where she studied with Gary Faigin, Nelson
Shanks, and Ron Sherr. Frey furthered her oil painting skills with Nelson
Shanks at Studio Incamminati, and helped establish the atelier. She also
studied with Michael Grimaldi, Dan Thompson, and Darren Kingsley.
In 2008, she received an Honor Award in the Portrait Society
of America's 2008 Portrait Competition. The artist has participated in numerous
group exhibitions throughout the country including those at The Union League of
Philadelphia; Mohawk Valley Community College, in Utica, New York; and for the
American Red Cross of Central New Jersey.
Her work has been exhibited at the Freeman's Auction House,
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the Gratz Gallery, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania;
the Peter McPhee Fine Arts, in Stone Harbor, New Jersey; the Philadelphia
Sketch Club Juried Show; the Main Line Art Center, in Haverford, Pennsylvania;
Perkins Center for the Arts, in Moorestown, New Jersey; the Artists' House
Gallery, in Philadelphia; and the State Art Museum Juried Show, in Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania. Frey's work is held in numerous collections in the United States,
as well as in many countries worldwide.
In 2009-2010 she completed two portraits for "Face To Face,"
a community art project designed to help young people with craniofacial
conditions see themselves in a different and more positive light. The portraits
that Frey painted are on permanent display at the Ruth and Tristram Colket Jr.
Translational Research Building, at the Childrens' Hospital of Philadelphia.
Frey currently resides in Philadelphia, where she is a Teaching Fellow at
