Clayton Beck: Weekend With the Masters Instructor

Clayton J. Beck III studied at the American Academy of Art and the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, in Chicago, and launched his career as a professional artist and teacher before graduating. Now a sought after instructor, Beck says, “My love for painting has always been enhanced by my love to teach. Artists who think they understand painting should try teaching. They will soon realize how little they know. I have always felt that I have a responsibility to teach because I have been given a generous gift from my teachers (Bill Parks, Ted Smuskiewicz, and Richard Schmid), and it should be passed on to the next generation of painters who share this love of art.” Beck has received awards in juried shows organized by the Portrait Society of America, the Municipal Art League of Chicago, the Pastel Society of America, and the MidWest Pastel Society. His paintings have also been included in group and solo exhibitions organized by the Oil Painters of America; Tailsman Gallery, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Joyce Petter Gallery, in Douglas Michigan; Nichols Taos Fine Art Gallery, in Taos, New Mexico; and the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts.

On Clayton Beck: "When I discovered Clayton's paintings in a Scottsdale gallery last February, I was amazed at the strength of the brushwork, the skillful control of form and composition, and the perceptive view of the subject matter. I was stunned to learn how young he was and how many masterful paintings he had created. I immediately commissioned an article on his work and scheduled one of his paintings for the cover of the December, 2005 issue of American Artist. I'm certain other editors, collectors, curators, and artists will be just as amazed by his talents when they discover him."--Stephen Doherty
