I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of “reality television,” but one program that has captured my attention is Bravo’s Top Chef. Somehow, the show manages to keep the manufactured drama to minimum and allows viewers to actually pay attention to what the contestants are there for—their ability to cook. It’s one of the few reality shows out there that actually lets you appreciate the skills of the contestants, rather than who’s going to stab who in the back.
It appears that Bravo is now planning to focus the eye of reality television on the world of fine art, with The Untitled Art Project, produced by Sarah Jessica Parker’s production company Pretty Matches, Eliz Holzman, and Magical Elves (the Emmy-nominated producers of Top Chef and Project Runway). This show will be a creative-competition series featuring 13 aspiring artists, who will compete for the grand prize of a gallery show, cash, and a sponsored national tour. Each episode will feature contestants creating unique pieces of artwork in a variety of disciplines, including sculpture, painting, photography, and industrial design.
For those interested in participating in the show, open calls for artists will be held across the country in the upcoming weeks at the following locations:
