Bernarducci Meisel Gallery, in New York City, is hosting the third solo exhibition of cityscape paintings by Raphealla Spence. Spence uses computers and digital photography to help her create her Photorealistic paintings, yet the paintings themselves are not mere copies of the photos, with details subtly modified to include what even the human eye can’t see.

A sad comment on the lack of two of the strongest elements of painting - using color and composition to evoke emotion. The need to replicate detail overshadows the point of the work and supplants it with the artist's own psychological needs.

I sensed a lot of resentments in the comments made by Lou Marek. I am a painter myself, a successful one at that, and no, I do not paint realism, however, I have nothing but respect and admiration for this majestic display of workmanship, attention to detail and restrain in coloring, qualities this so rare this days. Congratulations Raphaella. You are not only a superb painter, but also an excellent colorist; and anyone that differs does it out of plain enviousness. I feel usseless to wish you a good luck with your exhibit because the success is already in your pocket.
