The National Academy Museum joins two other distinguished New York art institutions—the Brooklyn Museum and the New York Historical Society—in honoring the accomplishments of pioneering American landscape painter Asher B. Durand. The exhibition explores Durand’s leadership as a founding member of the National Academy of Design and consists of 20 works—including paintings, prints, sculpture, and manuscripts—from the academy’s permanent collection. Other artists featured include Frederic Edwin Church and Ralph Albert Blakelock.
