During your visit to China you will be just as impressed if and when you are able to meet other Chinese artists with an interest in painting similar to your colleagues and you.

China has a long history with painting and just recently The China National Academy of Painting had its 30th Anniversary exhibition at the National Museum in Beijing.

The paintings were quite impressive! It is equally interesting that many Americans have not been able to see such works of amazing contemporary Chinese painters.

With the ACOPAL exhibit, I hope you have a great introduction to China and a wonderful beginning of sharing between East & West painters, as well as bring back to the US insightful memories of your experience.

Looking forward to seeing the exhibit of fellow American painters when it arrives in Beijing in the fall. In the meantime I will post the photos of The China National Academy of Painting had its 30th Anniversary exhibition at the National Museum in Beijing for you to see.

-Sketching Beijing & Beyond, Alicia

It is very very much like Monet's Rouen cathedrals. The colors and the application of paint are exactly like Monet's. Impressive !

I would like to continue to use Grumbacher red. It's a great red and it's exactly what I need. But for some reason the paint drying in the tube a little quicker than I think it should. Maybe I need to contact Grumbacher and ask them if this is characteristic of their Grumbacher red.

They will probably give you their closest color. I would suggest going to an art store and very gently removing the cap without squeezing the tube and see for yourself. If your even more careful, very gently tap the paint with your pinky finger and smudge it onto a piece of white paper to see how it gradates. If there is oil instead of pigment, skip that tube so you don't make a mess.

Also if Grumbacher red works for you, why change brands?

I was able to put together a combination of loaned work, and things still in my "collection." I got several loaned in the St. Louis area, and a few from New York, to bring a few of my older "best" pieces in. Then, I recalled unsold work from my galleries. So, with that and new work from the past couple years, I was able to fill out the exhibit with 30 paintings. We had a limited shipping and loan budget, so I hope that my next "retrospective" will be able to include more of my larger collected works. Thanks for asking!
