Autoteatro No. 2 (Homage to A. Ametzka and G. Martinikorena)
by Beñat Iglesias Lopez, 2009, graphite, 24 x 18. |
The contest received hundreds of entries
spanning numerous drawing media and myriad approaches to
self-portraiture. The
jury--which included Elaine Adams, owner of American Legacy Fine Arts, in
California; and noted art writer and collector Tim Newton--selected eleven
finalists. In addition to Iglesias, they were
Liz Adams-Jones, Jacques Bredy, Terra Chapman, Jacob Dhein, Sahdir
Ellis, Terry Kelly, Charles Wayne King, Stanka Kordic, Dori Spector, and
Matt Tucker. Their terrific
self-portraits range from the classical to the humorously bizarre, and all of which are accomplished and creative artworks.
All 11 artists will be featured with
their winning artwork in the spring issue of Drawing, on sale May 15. A sneak peak at the cover featuring the
winning image will be available on Artist Daily and Facebook in the coming
weeks.
Next up for Drawing is the 2012 Shades
of Gray Open Competition, our art competition that you can enter for a chance to have your
artwork shown in a major exhibition and featured in the pages of Drawing, in addition to cash prizes up
to $1,000. More information on that
will be coming soon!
