Q: I would like to reduce the surface shine on one of my
recent oil paintings. The painting is 60" x 40" and was prepared using
thin layers of oil and Liquin as a glazing medium. How do I bring the
shine down to a subtle sheen rather than a reflective shine?
A: If your painting is completely dry, it can be
varnished again. Sennelier produces a Satin Painting Varnish that will
work well because it is highly resistant and does not yellow. The
product produces a finish that is between gloss and matte. Sennelier
also produces Matte Painting Varnish if you prefer a matte finish.
