Art materials for beginners

24 Feb 2009

Q: I am just starting to learn how to draw and paint, and I have a limited budget to spend on art materials. Which pastel set would you recommend?

A
:  Sennlier produces top-of-the-line pastels, and many artists save them for the top layer of their artwork. You may want to start off with hard pastels and pastel pencils because they are less expensive. The Cretacolor brand offers rich, vibrant colors. I would also suggest using toned paper because pastels will look more interesting on a middle-value pastel paper.

this is not a comment but a question,  can not find where to ask any longer.  What type of lighting would I use to paint at night?I am having a great deal of difficulty seeing.  I have the 3 incandescent lights wiithout the shade and one direct halogen light directly on the work.

I see they have different types of task lighting are they really any different.  A small table lamp was anywhere from 80.00-125.00

Thank you who ever may answer this
