Stuff of Dreams--Painting on Panels Workshop in Italy

5 Apr 2011

Margaret Krug, painter, writer for American Artist, and author of An Artist Handbook: Materials and Techniques, is teaching a one-of-a-kind program, Painting on Panels, from August 12-26 in Spannocchia, Italy.

The scope of the workshop is traditional painting methods in a contemporary context and includes experimenting with encaustic, egg tempera, and oil painting. Attendees will create an original body of work while learning the techniques of master painters not only in the studio but during trips to nearby museums and other sites in Siena, Florence, and other surrounding towns.

Participants stay in the Spannocchia Villa, about 12 miles southwest of Siena. The villa is built into a massive castle that dates back to the early Middle Ages and is equipped with a library, studio spaces, laboratory, museum, and swimming pool. Doesn't this sound like an extraordinary opportunity to create art in an incredible, historically rich setting?

Registration closes May 15, so if you have questions and to get more details go to Margaret's website and click on 'Courses,' or go to the program website. Enrollment is limited to 7 students, and prior art instruction is required. For an application, contact Margaret at margaret.krug@gmail.com or call 646.232.6808.
