Oil Critique: "Apples"

This week, Joyce Washor talks about how to focus the viewer's interest.

I'm a bit hard pressed to really find anything to change in this beautiful painting. If forced, I might shorten the stem on the far right so that it stops short of going to the edge of the painting. If the artist chooses to take this step, I'd advise them to shorten the stem in the middle and keep the red shapes at the far end. I might also use a bit less brightness on the left-hand side of the wooden ledge to keep the interest focused on the center of the image.
